Rounds 1-4 – Western Suburbs JAFC – U10’s 2018

2018 has seen the introduction of 6 brand new players: Kai, Jonathon, Lachlan, Alex, Carlo and Nedd, complementing the 10 players remaining from the 2017 season. Welcome to the team lads, I hope you enjoy the season. The start of the season has been somewhat disjointed owing to the school holiday break, limited training and people being away. Round 1 vs Moore Park away at the Bat & Ball in searing heat. A very pleasing effort across the board and congratulations to new player Jonathon, as well as Charlie on picking up the coach’s award.

Round 2 vs Easts away at Trumper with a side decimated in numbers, but not spirit, due to holidays and sickness. Young Elizabeth from the u8’s kept her boots on to make it 10 aside, and Easts had 3 on the bench. An outstanding effort on another stinking hot, windy day, with no bench available. Lachlan (new player) and Tadhg picked up the coach’s award. A gutsy effort by all on the park, well done.

Round 3 vs Concord at our new home Wagener Oval. I think the boys have enjoy the break from school and minds may have been elsewhere. There were some patches of good football, and we hope to get our rhythm back when training resumes. Thomas and Ryan picked up the coach’s award.

Round 4 vs Drummoyne at Wagener. A great effort by every player! Luciano opened the scoring with a 50m monster that sailed through at post height in the first 20 seconds! Some outstanding defensive intercept marks taken by Kai, Alex continuing to win free kicks in the forward line putting his head over the ball and taking the knock, and a tenacious tackling and defensive pressure effort throughout the game by Nedd, saw them share coach’s award honours. Special mention to Ayman K who snagged 4 goals, 3 of which he conjured through his exceptional agility and goal smarts. On top of that, I could not fault one single player effort in this game, for their intent at the footy was lacking the previous week. This is how you play footy lads!

In addition to this, a number of the u10’s played additional football games for the u11’s, u12-2’s and u12-3’s. This opportunity will provide a different experience and increase in confidence for the players. Anyone interested is urged to let me know so I can inform the other coaches of your interest. As always, charge through many a pack!
